why we call it Super Aloe

South Africa’s natural wonder

Aloe Ferox, also known as cape aloe, is organically ‘wild grown’ and not cultivated. It is endemic to South Africa. Aloe 247 uses the super-powered inner flesh of the Aloe Ferox leaf, which is rich in amino acids, minerals, vitamins, polysaccharides, enzymes and lipids. When processed into a liquid gel, these extraordinary properties make a potent healer, soother and immune-booster.

The Aloe Ferox plant derives its name from the ferocious thorns (Ferox in Latin) that cover the leathery surface of the leaves. The thorns protect the all-important life sustaining fleshy core of the leaf from Africa’s numerous herbivores.

Super Aloe

For centuries, aloe has been used by indigenous peoples all over the World to care for skin, for medicinal purposes to assist in healing burns, sunburn, cuts and abrasions, and to treat itchy skin disorders and insect bites, or simply to nourish and revitalise. That’s why today, even with all the advances in modern science, aloe is widely used in health and beauty products. But not all aloe is the same.

The indigenous people of Southern Africa have used Aloe Ferox as a cure-all for centuries, and today it is acknowledged worldwide for its superior soothing and healing powers, as well as its antiseptic, cleansing, moisturising and anti-inflammatory properties.

Aloe Ferox, never filtered

The Aloe Vera species has a jelly-like inner leaf, which means it is not possible to remove the bitter sap and Aloin by washing. Therefore, it requires filtering, reducing the nutrient density and impairing the taste.

The Aloe Ferox leaf is fundamentally different as the natural Aloin is encapsulated in a row of capillaries between the thorny outer green skin and the white inner flesh.

The bitter sap and Aloin is removed by peeling the outer skin of the leaf and washing the crisp inner fillet. The leaf fillets are simply pulped, leaving all of the nutrients in the pulp and ensuring none of the goodness is filtered out. As the Aloe Ferox leaves are unfiltered, this means Organic Aloe 247 Juice is full of super powered Aloe.

Wild harvested, sustainably

The Aloe Ferox used to make Aloe 247 has total, organic traceability starting at source in Uniondale in the Western Cape, awarding the brand its unique, accredited ‘Wild Harvested’ status. The ancient art of tapping the bitter sap from the Aloe Ferox leaves still forms an important part of local tradition in South Africa today, and harvested sustainably, provides employment and opportunity for local communities.

Wild harvested means:

It’s totally wild. Each Aloe Ferox plant has its own genetic biodiversity built around 98% water, natural sugars, vitamins, minerals, lipids, amino acids and enzymes, much like picking apples from the same orchard, so no batch is identical.

It’s naturally strong. Aloe Ferox is robust, able to withstand extreme temperatures and weather conditions. This strength extends to its handling and healing properties.
